Ceramics

Working in Yanbaru, where human life exists in close proximity to the forces of nature, the artist focuses on the intimate relationship between human experience, memory, and emotion. Their practice draws upon expressions and emotions preserved in memory, the figure of the elderly woman, and cultural practices and rituals surrounding death. By turning their attention to moments that often go unnoticed in everyday life, the artist explores the continuum between life and death, as well as the points of connection through which human beings encounter and become part of the natural world.

Ceramics

The artist creates refined vessels for contemporary life by blending several types of clay sourced primarily from northern Okinawa. Their work preserves the distinctive character of the clay, including traces of iron, small stones, and dark mineral particles, while balancing these natural textures with an understated elegance. Deeply inspired by the Wakuta-yaki pottery of some 400 years ago, the artist does not seek to replicate antique forms. Instead, through a contemporary gaze toward Okinawan clay and historic ceramics, they explore what vessels should look like in Okinawa today.
